Pomfort releases a major upgrade to its professional media management software Silverstack

Munich (February 10th, 2016) – Pomfort, a global provider of professional software solutions for media and color management in motion pictures and broadcast production, today announced the major upgrade to its flagship product Silverstack. The new version 5 focuses on the evolving role color occupies in today’s film production workflows and includes essential features that make it extremely easy to manage and create looks in combination with source media on set and beyond.

Silverstack is the clever software for media management that now also performs tasks to efficiently supply looks for QC, dailies creation, and for editorial. Featuring the automated matching of media and color information in one clip library, Silverstack significantly facilitates and accelerates workflows in film productions of all sizes. Features like the new grading controls, the import option for single looks or archives from LiveGrade or other tools, the extensive matching wizard, and the customizable reports now with color information, significantly help the production team in their daily activities.

Silverstack’s powerful integration with common third-party tools like DaVinci Resolve or AVID Media Composer enable to transfer media and color information in a streamlined way so that customers do not waste time anymore going through confusing paper stacks. In addition, the opportunity to generate customizable clip reports with just a few clicks gives the entire production team a quick and detailed overview about all relevant production data and hereby tremendously supports them in their creative processes.

The newly built-in output for HD-SDI monitoring meets on-set staff’s common requirements for checking source material. Silverstack XT enables teams to review clips in full 10-bit quality by using HD-SDI playout devices from Blackmagic Design (with AJA support coming soon). Furthermore, frame lines can be used to display clips with a variety of aspect ratios in the Silverstack Media Player, on HD-SDI monitors, and for the transcoded clips.

Silverstack has been one of the leading tools for media management in film productions over the last years, and has been used on thousands of feature films, television projects, and commercials such as Steve Jobs, Ant Man and many more.

“We have been Silverstack users for years, and it is impressive to experience how every upgrade facilitates the way how we are able to manage media and looks across teams or individually,” says Matthieu Straub, onset workflow specialist at Be4Post in Paris. I very much like the integration with LiveGrade that significantly increases the productivity working with colors at the film set.

“The feedback for Silverstack v5 related to look management features has been overwhelming already in the beta phase. Customers are thrilled with the option to handle clip and look information in one library”, says Patrick Renner, product manager at Pomfort. “This really fastens production processes and enables frictionless transfers of all necessary data to subsequent production steps such as dailies creation. Unlike other tools Silverstack is a software that enables open media workflows so that customers now have even more options to work on their feature films, TV episodes, and commercials.”

New Features in Silverstack 5:
• Extensive look management and color grading functionalities
• A dynamic look library that seamlessly integrates with LiveGrade Pro
• Improved capabilities to transfer clip and color information to common dailies tools
• Advanced QC enhancements that now include professional HD-SDI monitoring
• Frame lines with options for different aspect ratios

Pomfort unveils the next generation of LiveGrade

Munich (July 13, 2015) – Pomfort, a global provider of professional solutions for color and data management on the film set, has released the next round of professional features to LiveGrade. Anchored by a major upgrade, specifically the new LiveGrade Pro v3 contains multiple features and performance enhancements that support DITs, colorists and DOPs to work fluidly with looks in the production process by achieving demanding and accurate results faster and more efficiently than ever before.

LiveGrade Pro is the must-have solution by now offering more functionalities to adjust and to compare looks directly on set. The new video input interface enables capturing the HD-SDI signal of a camera so that recorded clips or live images can be used for visualizing and referencing the required looks. The new split screen view makes the comparison of looks even more convenient and accurate.

Furthermore, Pomfort has delivered look library enhancements to LiveGrade Pro that significantly accelerate and optimize look workflows. LiveGrade Pro v3 now has the capability to extract time code information from the live HD-SDI signal which is automatically saved along with the look metadata in the library. Based on the look information in the library, LiveGrade Pro now allows to create look reports as PDFs for a faster end-to-end communication specifically when it comes to the task of matching footage with appropriate looks in the dailies creation process.

Also, DITs, colorists and DOPs increasingly need to be able to apply filters for color correction in order to either easily adjust a specific color or range of colors or to configure a specific look for correcting color cast of different lenses or camera filters. Matching these requirements, LiveGrade Pro now provides new filters for secondary color correction and offers the ability to apply multiple different CDL or 3D LUT filters at the same time for preparing customized color pipelines.

LiveGrade Pro comes with a variety of further features such as support of ACES 1.0 transforms, or the new color controls for tint.

“LiveGrade Pro v3 is a large release that we think both DOPs and DITs are going to love,“ says Patrick Renner, Head of Product Design at Pomfort. “To maximize quality, creativity and efficiency in today’s production workflows, our customers need greater choice and flexibility in how they create and manage their looks. With the expanded capability of LiveGrade Pro, set professionals will be able to reduce the burden of fragmented workflows in their production environments, resulting in less complexity, fewer interoperability changes, and greater productivity.”

New features of LiveGrade Pro version 3 include:

  • Recording of clips and display of live images of one or multiple input streams by capturing live HD-SDI signals directly in LiveGrade via the Blackmagic Design hardware („Ultrastudio“ and „Decklink“ class of devices).
  • Split screen function for direct comparison of the live image with recorded material.
  • Extendedclip and look library containing movies and frame grabs for better reference.

For exchanging the created looks with the film team the app provides support for the exchange of essential look formats.

“As workflows have changed, most productions are aware that post-production starts on the film set during shooting,” said Rob Tarrant, European Product Marketing Manager for Panasonic. “Post-production color management efficiency can be drastically improved by good preparation and pre-visualization during shooting. Initializing the image look in-camera is the best way to enable a managed color process throughout production and post-production.”
