Pressemitteilung

Press Release

Munich, 03 May 2012 – Pomfort, a provider of professional software for the data and color management on the film set, releases its newest product LiveGrade - a innovative and powerful look and color management solution for the right image at the filmset. LiveGrade works in conjunction with a Blackmagic HDLink device and allows to create individual camera looks via SDI Live-Image interactively on the monitor on-set. The two possible grading modes “CDL” and “Alexa Look” can be controlled either directly via the controller in the software as well as from external panels of Tangent and Avid. All color adjustments can be stored in the file formats 3D LUT, ASC-CDL or Alexa Look for subsequent production steps.

The newly released software Pomfort LiveGrade, in combination with Blackmagic Design’s HDLink, adjusts the color of live images via the HD-SDI signal. This allows camera operators, camera assistants or DITs to work in collaboration with the director to create interactive camera looks directly on the set. To cover a wide range of possible workflows in production, LiveGrade offers comprehensive export capabilities in 3D LUT, CDL and XML file formats. Enabling the on-set defined look information to be passed seamlessly onto subsequent production processes. Pomfort has also newly developed the Cube-O-Scope which is a unique, interactive visualization model for the emerging 3D LUT.

“In the feedback for our other camera-related software products we saw the need for a professional tool for interactive manipulation of Alexa looks,” says Patrick Renner, Product Designer at Pomfort. “So we took existing color processing technology from our Silverstack software and integrated Blackmagic Design’s HDLink devices.”

LiveGrade has been tested and evaluated in series, commercial and feature film productions worldwide in a three month beta testing phase and was presented recently at NAB 2012 as a fully developed product to the public.

Dan Kanes is a Local 600 DIT from Los Angeles, and has been beta testing LiveGrade. Dan commented, “On many recent national commercial spots, including a high end Beauty Spot for Garnier cosmetics, Pomfort LiveGrade in conjunction with my BlackMagic HDLink Pro has helped me tremendously create dailies level LUTs that made both the Director of Photography and the Client extremely happy because it saved valuable time in the color correction suite and gave greater confidence to everyone on set in being able to achieve desired results from the image.”

LiveGrade scenario on the film set

The camera HD-SDI signal is transmitted through Blackmagic Design’s HDLink. LiveGrade takes control of this device via USB and can adjust the live image via appropriate color controls including lift, gamma, gain, saturation and so on. For greater accuracy levels LiveGrade’s current version supports the panel controller Avid Artist Color and the Tangent Wave – the Tangent elements will follow shortly. LiveGrade offers import and export functionality for Alexa Looks and for the widely utilized CDL and 3D LUT workflows which are used in a variety of cameras such as Sony, Canon or RED. LiveGrade is a comprehensive solution for creating, changing and managing looks directly on the set.

Cube-O-Scope

The Cube-O-Scope is a unique visualization model developed by Pomfort for the emerging 3D LUTs. A colored cube illustrates in a clear and easy way how to interact with the color controls in LiveGrade, providing an additional test and control option when creating looks.
