Pomfort SilverStack - Workflows

QuickTime creation for editorial

In order to get your scanned or rendered image sequence back to SD or HD editorial, you will have to convert the image sequences to QuickTime movies. In the following workflow we will show, how SilverStack covers this entire process of QuickTime generation and what options and possibilities you have in this workflow.

Grouping of sequences in a workspace The first thing you will do is import your sequences into SilverStack. You can do this with an open dialog or with drag and drop for individual sequences or you choose the "New workspace from folder..." option from the menu that will find all sequences within a folder and lets you select which of the sequences to import.

Applying color modifications The next step will be to apply linearization settings (if you have logarithmic film material, for example from a film scanner) and a primary RGB grade. You don't have to do this for every single sequence (you can, if you like!), SilverStack offers the functionality of duplicating the settings to all or selected sequences.

Choosing compress settings
In the compress settings choose the "Create TC Track from File Names" switch to let SilverStack's render queue embed a time code track into the QuickTime movie. Editing applications such as Final Cut Pro read this information and use it in the same way they would use the timecode information that came from a video tape e.g. for conforming.

In addition to that you choose from various options for the creation of the movies for the individual needs of your editorial department such as format of black bars, burn-in text with time code and shot name. These settings are stored in presets so that they can be applied to the entire series of sequences.

QuickTime files After rendering you will get a number of QuickTime files in a destination you chose. The file names have their origin in the folder names of the original image sequences.

Example EDL With the right EDL or just by relinking media to the new clips, the should get the clips to you timeline as desired.
