Livegrade Studio Integrates With FilmLight’s BLG Color Workflow

Dedicated Grading Mode Supporting the FilmLight Color Pipeline for Perfect Compatibility With the FilmLight Ecosystem

Munich (November 24, 2021) – Pomfort and FilmLight, both renowned developers of industry- leading film production technologies, today jointly announced a close collaboration with significant impact on professional color workflows: Pomfort’s on-set digital imaging software Livegrade Studio now seamlessly integrates with the FilmLight ecosystem, bringing together look-related production processes on set and in post-production.

A new dedicated grading mode in Livegrade Studio allows grading in FilmLight’s color pipeline and the exchange of looks via FilmLight’s proprietary file format BLG. Thus, FilmLight and Pomfort combine their respective expertise to offer customers a comprehensive solution for state-of-the-art color management across the whole production – from on-set grading to dailies creation and finishing.

Livegrade Studio adds FilmLight BLG Grading Mode

Pomfort and FilmLight software technologies both continue to power outstanding productions that excel in visual richness and technical complexity – from box office record-breakers to streaming sensations and Academy-winning blockbusters. The new integration forms an exciting milestone to keep serving top-level production communities:

“We are delighted that Livegrade 5.5’s new support for BLG files provides a simple, elegant way for colorists and cinematographers to exchange and refine sophisticated looks,” said Steve Chapman, Co-founder and Director at FilmLight. “Livegrade’s ability to load and export BLG files allows for seamless integration with Daylight or Baselight, as the full grading stack can be be automatically reinstantiated by matching media metadata with the metadata stored within each BLG.”

With Livegrade Studio now enabling productions to start consistent look management in FilmLight’s color pipeline on set, both technical and creative roles can experience profound benefits as Livegrade Product Manager Wanja Nolte highlights:

“The FilmLight Integration enables Livegrade Studio users to natively work in the FilmLight color pipeline, ensuring a consistent pipeline across the whole production. Furthermore, the BLG import/export allows roundtripping with FilmLight applications involved in dailies creation and finishing. It’s a very powerful way to pass on look metadata as the BLG preserves the technical parameters as well as the creative decisions made on set.”

A show look designed in FilmLight’s Daylight or Baselight can now be imported into Livegrade Studio as a BLG file. FilmLight’s specific input and output transform parameters, such as “Input Color Space” and “Working Color Space” as well as output transform parameters “DRT” and “Viewing Color Space”, can be natively used and exported for further processing. Additional grading layers of the look are merged into a “Grade” node within Livegrade’s grade editor. On export, all layers in the grade stack are automatically preserved in the BLG file, ensuring full editability in succeeding applications. With its set of powerful grading controls, Livegrade Studio can adjust all imported BLG looks via ASC-CDL corrections. CDL nodes added in Livegrade Studio are also transferred into the BLG file, so that the DP’s creative decisions regarding the on-set look remain editable in dailies creation and finishing. As footage delivered to FilmLight’s Baselight is now consistent and much closer to the DP’s creative intent, colorists can devote more time to polishing the look and making aesthetic enhancements.

FilmLight and Pomfort are thrilled to have created a bridge between on-set production and post by introducing the outlined integration.
